The Deception Map: to Believe it or Not?

Looking into the map, the first thing that I notice are the grids. The gridlines are placed on top of the map objects giving the map a visually tiring appearance. It gives the notion that the gridlines are more important aspect of the diagram. But somehow these gridlines show the projection of the map used – it gives us a sense of how distorted the map is as compared to reality.
